چکیده

Accuracy and mesh generation are key issues for the high-resolution hydrodynamic modelling of the whole Great Barrier Reef. Our objective is to generate suitable unstructured grids that can resolve topological and dynamical features like tidal jets and recirculation eddies in the wake of islands. A new strategy is suggested to refine the mesh in areas of interest taking into account the bathymetric field and an approximated distance to islands and reefs. Such a distance is obtained by solving an elliptic differential operator, with specific boundary conditions. Meshes produced illustrate both the validity and the efficiency of the adaptive strategy. Selection of refinement and geometrical parameters is discussed. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Hydrodynamic Modelling of Coral Reefs:Ningaloo Reef-Western Australia

As with all coral reef systems, the ecology of Ningaloo Reef is closely linked to water circulation which transport and disperse key material such as nutrients and larvae. Circulation on coral reefs may be driven by a number of forcing mechanisms including waves, tides, wind, and buoyancy effects. Surface waves interacting with reefs have long been known to dominate the currents on many coral r...

Pressure-Velocity Coupled Finite Volume Solution of Steady Incompressible Invscid Flow Using Artificial Compressibility Technique

Application of the computer simulation for solving the incompressible flow problems motivates developing efficient and accurate numerical models. The set of Inviscid Incompressible Euler equations can be applied for wide range of engineering applications. For the steady state problems, the equation of continuity can be simultaneously solved with the equations of motion in a coupled manner using...

Predicting the Location and Spatial Extent of Submerged Coral Reef Habitat in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, Australia

AIM Coral reef communities occurring in deeper waters have received little research effort compared to their shallow-water counterparts, and even such basic information as their location and extent are currently unknown throughout most of the world. Using the Great Barrier Reef as a case study, habitat suitability modelling is used to predict the distribution of deep-water coral reef communitie...

A revision of the Australian species of Trimma (Actinopterygii, Gobiidae), with descriptions of six new species and redescriptions of twenty-three valid species.

The gobiid genus Trimma currently contains 75 valid species, with another 20-30 known but undescribed species. There are 29 species in Australian waters (six undescribed). This paper describes the six new species, and provides redescriptions of most of the 23 previously described species known from the region, as well as a key for all the species. The six new species are: T. insularum (endemic ...

Hydrodynamic and N-body Schemes On An Unstructured, Adaptive Mesh with Applications to Cosmological Simulations

The theory and application of numerical methods for unstructured meshes have been improved significantly in recent years. Because the grids can be place arbitrarily in space, unstructured meshes can provide much higher spatial resolution than regular meshes. The built-in nature of mesh adaptivity for unstructured meshes gives one way to simulate highly dynamic, hierarchical problems involving b...
